Yooperlite Crystal Skulls
Yooperlite is an extremely rare stone that was transported to Michigan 8,000 to 10,000 years ago by glaciers or icebergs on Lake Algonquin, a larger predecessor to Lake Superior. This extraordinary mineral is only found along the beaches of Lake Superior, but once the scarce supply is gone, it cannot be replenished until the next glacier! What is most extraordinary about this stone is that it fluoresces orange under Ultraviolet light.
Fluorescence occurs when a substance has absorbed light in the ultraviolet range of the spectrum and emits light in the visible spectrum. The emitted light has a longer wavelength, allowing it to be visibly seen. Fluorescence happens on the atomic level, when the electrons in the atoms react to the UV light and get excited by that wavelength.
Yooperlite contains igneous rocks that formed when molten magma cooled slowly under the earth’s surface.
